Happy graduation season!
This spring, I got to work with some amazing graduates at Loyola University Chicago before their commencement in May. Getting the chance to photograph these grads in their cap & gowns on campus was so much fun and I can't wait to share the photos. Stop #1: Madonna della Strada Chapel Arches
The Madonna della Strada Chapel is a Catholic chapel in the center of Loyola's Main Rogers Park Campus. This is such a must for graduate photos and is a true iconic photo spot. The chapel first opened its doors in 1938 and features gorgeous stained glass, these arches along the side, and the most picturesque façade facing the lake. Taking photos both directions is a must. One side showcases the blooming foliage of the spring (it looks so much warmer and gorgeous than it felt) and the other side showcases the lake.
Stop #2: The green doors of Cudahy Library
Every college has their traditions and Loyola is no different! Starting in 2009, Loyola University Chicago started a new tradition. Every undergraduate freshman enters the green Cudahy doors as a part of their new student orientation. Graduating seniors are invited to exit the green Cudahy doors after the Senior Toast - an event that kicks off commencement week. The Cudahy doors only open for these two events, otherwise they stay locked year-round! These iconic green doors are a perfect stop for graduates during their cap and gown graduation photo session. Everyone knows the doors and it's such a campus staple.
Stop #3: Dumbach Hall
This has quickly become my absolute favorite stop during graduate sessions on Loyola's campus! I love the arches, the stained glass, sitting on the stairs, and the academic vibe of it all. Dumbach Hall today is just your run-of-the-mill academic building for all sorts of subjects but little known fact - it's actually the oldest building on the Lake Shore Campus! It was built in 1908.
